Does your dog destroy it’s bed within days or even hours? You are not alone. One of the most common questions we get asked is: what type of bed do we use? We’ve used many types of beds. After time it seems that no matter what our dogs find a way to rip them. They love to tear up their beds if they are full of stuffing. So generally we’ve opted for beds that do not have any stuffing in them. Below are our recommendations.
The Cheap Bed
The bed that we currently use now is the Coolaroo Elevated Pet Bed with Knitted Fabric. It’s a bed that costs around $25. Now it’s not a perfect bed by any means, but our dogs do love to use them. We have the size large for our golden retrievers. 2 of our goldens can sleep on one bed. After months of use we do have to replace the pad with a replacement cover. Each cover lasts about 6 months. So roughly I have to spend $10 every 6 months for a cover. That’s far less than what we used to pay for expensive beds that didn’t last at all. It is not very eye candy though, but convenient.
The Expensive Bed
There is another option that does last longer Kuranda Chewproof Dog Bed. They do cost around 3 times as much as the Coolaroo. The pad extends to all four corners, makings it last longer without the need to replace covers as much. However, if a tear does happen then replacing the cover is more difficult. They do have the option of buying fleece covers that you can add to the bed. It does make the bed comfier. Then again if you are dealing with a dog that loves to destroy beds, then I’d assume the fleece will get destroyed quickly as well.
The Comfy Bed
There is also an even more expensive option that I’ve seen good reviews on. Although it’s still not chewproof, it’s just more chew resistant. It’s the K9 Ballistics Original TUFF Dog Bed. They have many options for their bedding. For most dogs these beds should be enough, but the price point is pretty steep for myself. They will be comfier than my previous options though. So those who love to give their fur members the best comfort, then this might be your option.
No matter which bed you choose, may sure it will be big enough for your dog. Generally for golden retrievers we use a large size. If you have any recommendations on beds you think we might like, feel free to leave us a comment below.
