I’m always on the hunt for new products to pamper my dogs. A while back I was contacted by Petlibro to have me review one of their products. Petlibro makes high quality pet products. After my discussion with a Petlibro associate they sent me their Petlibro Memory Foam Pet Bed at no cost. I was not paid for this review, however I did receive the pet bed for free to test out. With that in mind, I will review the pet bed the best I can with my golden retrievers as the prime users.
Dog Beds
Years ago I made recommendations on dog beds. Over the years my opinion has changed. Which is why I probably should make an update, or a new post. Petlibro will definitely be added to any future posts. Dogs beds in my opinion should meet at minimum certain requirements.
- Durable
- Comfortable
- Cleanable
- Attractive
- For the right price
With the above mentioned requirements in mind, does Petlibro Memory Foam Pet Bed meet those requirements?
Durablity
I have had many dogs that would destroy any bed they were given. I could train them, leave, return to find it destroyed. Luckily the two remaining golden I have don’t destroy their beds. The quality of the microfiber fabric seems high quality. I haven’t had it long enough to know how long it will last, but even if the cover doesn’t last, I can always replace the cover if necessary. Memory foam tend to last many years. So I don’t expect the foam to break down for a while. If the pet bed is like human beds, I’d suspect it lasting at least 8 years. God forbid a pup doesn’t destroy it.
One thing I love about the bed is that the bottom side has a non-slip silicone bottom. That diminishes the slipping around the house. It’s not something necessary, but it does help a little.
The only thing I would give advice on here, is offer a material that would last from aggressive chewers. Aggressive chewers will rip it in a matter of seconds. For non aggressive chewers, I surmise it will last a long time.
Comfortability
My girl Alice is tacking on the years. She is almost 6 years old. Time flew. Just like humans, she will eventually begin to have problems with her bones and joints. In our home, our dogs have the ability to sit on the couch. SHHHH, don’t tell no one. Upon arrival I placed this bed right on the floor. Alice went straight to it and lied down. Both Jaks and Alice take turns lying down on it. Especially when the bed is placed right at my feet. The closer they are to me, the better they feel.
The cool gel memory foam feels very comfortable to me, so I can only imagine it is very comfortable to Alice.
Cleanable
Years ago I purchased LoveSac Sectionals. 14 years ago to be exact. I still have them in my front room. The couch allows the cover to come off and be cleaned. When you have kids, dogs, cats, or any animal, often it is nice to throw your covers in the wash, and they reappear like new. The Petlibro Pet Bed also has a cover with a zipper that allows you to take it off to be machined washed. Once it starts to smell, get dirty, I can just throw it in the wash. It’s that simple. The foam encasement cover can be cleaned as well.
Appearance
The microfiber fabric cover comes in cool grey. A lot of interior decorators have gone to grey tones. So the choice of grey sits right in with most homes. The color is not obtrusive. As for shape, there is no pillowed edge to the bed. So it is just a basic rectangle. My dogs don’t seem to care.
Price
Right now the XL bed sells for $69.99 and $67.99 on amazon. For smaller golden retrievers you might get away with a large size, but for larger golden retrievers the XL size is optimal. I’ve purchased many different beds in the past. K9 Ballistics beds do cost more, but they don’t have the same memory foam. I feel if the price was a bit lower, then it would be a great purchase, especially if your dog doesn’t chew their beds.
Final Conclusion
First and foremost I love that this bed has memory foam. Not all beds can compete with that, and that alone is why I can recommend the bed. The bed is also machine washable, which once again is great. Visually it is not an ugly eyesore. Lastly and probably most importantly, my dogs love it. In general, it is very possible that I would buy it if I was looking for a bed. With all things considered, I would suggest Petlibro to make some future options based on these recommendations:
First Petlibro might want to consider using some type of ballistic material that won’t be torn by aggressive chewers. I would pay extra money just for that. K9 Ballistics beds are too expensive in my opinion, so there is room for a price point in between.
Second, I’d like an option for additional cover colors. That could be easily done since they already have zippers and are washable. I presume that may be a future option already considered.
Third, I’d like to see an option for thicker memory foam or some accessory that would raise the bed. For smaller breeds that may not be necessary, but with larger breeds who tend to develop dysplasia, even a with a thickness of 3″ it can be difficult to lie down. If the foam thickness was larger it would help for disabled dogs being able to lie down or get up. This is not something that is necessary, but it may help attract a specific buyer looking for something for their pooch.
Lastly, for the price as is I’d wish it was around $50 for the XL bed. If the material was stronger, I’d have hesitation in paying even more for it. Seriously, a bed for chewers at a the right price point a lot of people would flock to buy it.
If you are looking for a bed with memory foam, then this bed may be for you. If the company makes future changes I will update this page. Stay tuned for photos.
